Visit to the Bouwbeurs 2013

For Firma Siemelink, the main innovations at the Internationale BouwBeurs 2013 were:

1) Until recently, the insulated beam-and-block floor used a prestressed concrete beam. This beam is now being replaced either by a cold-formed steel section (Reppel & VBI) or by a reinforced plastic section (Rentovloer by De Hoop Pesko). In both cases no crane is needed and construction is cheaper. The plastic section insulates better; the cold-formed steel section is easier to design to the codes and can act compositely with the steel deck on top, allowing long spans. Compared with the prestressed concrete beam, the cold-formed steel joist needs less structural depth. These floors are still used in almost every extension, so this is a large market.
2) Wall-linQ Tape Drywall System: a light steel framing system with studs fitted with a peel-off film, after which plasterboard or similar boards are bonded to the studs. This makes installation quick and less strenuous.
3) Fermacell gypsum fibreboards, which can also be used in light steel framing.
4) Comhan introduces T-FLEX frameless frames for printed textile or plastic, also for use on the outside of the facade.
5) TATA STEEL introduced “solar heated fresh air”: a vertically ribbed steel sheet with small perforations through which the heated air is drawn into the building.
6) Box-section structures in laminated timber (Metsäwood).
