Wall openings in Maarssen

At the start of this project, the client wanted a clear span of more than 7 m to the new rear wall and, perpendicular to it, another opening through to the kitchen.

We were able to convince the client that such a large opening would be expensive and difficult:

  • The spanning beam becomes very deep
  • The supporting columns also become thick
  • In addition, the existing piles were inadequate, so extra money would also have had to go into the foundations.
  • The connection with the neighbours is now a continuous beam in the facade, which transfers a bending moment at the junction with the house next door. That is why, in practice, it is very difficult to remove this continuous beam.
